Newsworthy people and performances for Aug. 23, 2021

New hires

Simons Architects in Portland hired Noah Jacques, Emma Olson and Samantha Mellecker as architectural designers, Steve Hoffman as a staff architect and Morgan Hahn as a marketing and business development associate.

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust hired Crystal Richards as vice president, regional relationship manager and John O’Neill as assistant vice president, community banking relationship manager. Most recently, Richards served as vice president, market manager for Camden National Bank while O’Neill was branch manager for Service Credit Union.

The Maine Monitor in Augusta hired Eric Conrad as editor and executive director. Most recently, Conrad was director of communication and educational services at the Maine Municipal Association.

Murray Plumb & Murray, a law firm in Portland, hired Elizabeth Boepple as a partner. Boepple, who was previously with BCM Environmental & Land Law, is an environmental and land use lawyer.

Maine Source Homes & Realty in Auburn hired Mason Dupuis as a buyer specialist.

Dawson Insurance Agency in Bangor hired Bobbi DeRoche as a personal lines agent. DeRoche has 20 years of insurance experience.

Promotions

Market Decisions Research, a Portland-based firm that conducts qualitative and quantitative research for nonprofit, for-profit and government organizations, promoted Patrick Madden to president. Madden was previously executive vice president.

Kennebec Savings Bank promoted Amy Abbott to branch manager in Farmingdale. Abbott was previously customer care and loan representative.

Garrand Moehlenkamp, an advertising agency in Portland, promoted Ken Matsubara, Jessie Gilligan, Anthony DeBery and Tanya Sweatt to partners. Matsubara is chief creative officer of the firm while Gilligan is chief client officer, DeBery is COO and Sweatt is CFO.

Maine State Credit Union in Augusta promoted Adam Kavanagh to senior vice president, COO. Kavanagh was previously COO.

Rinck Advertising in Lewiston promoted Katie Greenlaw to vice president for public relations and influencer marketing. Greenlaw was previously director of public relations.

Appointments

Readiness Associates, a provider of full-service emergency preparedness and business continuity solutions in Portland, named Lauretta Siggers as chair of its advisory board. Siggers is CEO and founder of Siggers-Benton HR Consulting and serves as vice president of human resources and talent development at Cambridge College.

The Maine Venture Fund, a state-sponsored venture capital fund in Portland whose board of directors is appointed by the state’s governor, appointed Brien Walton to chair of its board of directors. Walton is CEO of Acadia Capital Management L3C, a nationally certified Community Development Entity, and director of the Richard E. Dyke Center for Family Business at Husson University.

Achievements

Nichols Portland LLC captured an “Award of Distinction in the Hand Tools/Recreation Category” for a positive displacement “gerotor” assembly for customized performance-racing fuel pumps at the 2021 Powder Metallurgy Design Excellence Awards Competition.

Geiger, a promotional products distributor in Lewiston, said that Jean Michalski earned Certified Advertising Specialist designation and Stephanie Jones and Betsy Shuster-Folga earned Master Advertising Specialist designation.

GHM Insurance Agency in Waterville announced that it was selected by Hanover Insurance Group to join its “President’s Club,” a group of independent insurance agencies from across the country.

The city of Portland was recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of the “10 Best Places to Live in the U.S.,” citing the city’s safety and small business and creative communities as some of the reasons for its desirability.

DMM Inc., a digital document solutions provider in Scarborough, received four “Awards of Excellence” from the Printing Industries of New England, recognizing the company’s work utilizing the latest digital ink jet technology. The awards were in the Digital Printing category for DM Campaign, On Demand, Customized Variable Data and Annual Reports.

PATH Intl., an international voice in the equine-assisted services industry, selected Pat Niboli as its “2021 PATH Intl. Volunteer of the Year.” Niboli is a volunteer at Riding To The Top Therapeutic Riding Center in Windham.

Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor said its was named the No. 3 “Best Community College of 2021” by Academic Influence, an academic and data-driven website that works to “provide an objective, non-gameable influence-based ranking for people, schools, and disciplinary programs.”

RE/MAX Shoreline in Portland announced that Peter Hawkes was ranked the No. 3 “Individual RE/MAX Agent in Maine” year-to-date.

U.S. News & World Report rated Maine Medical Center in Portland No. 1 on its list of “Best Hospitals in Maine” for 2021-2022 and recognized the hospital as “high performing” in 13 common procedures and conditions included in the annual survey of U.S. hospitals.

Pine Tree Society in Bath said it earned a 4-star ranking from Charity Navigator becoming one of the 17% of nonprofits in the U.S. to receive five consecutive 4-star evaluations.

SERVPRO announced that ServPro of Portland received the “Heritage Bronze” award at the company’s 52nd annual convention.

Zachau Construction in Freeport announced that Daryl Norton, superintendent, completed his Passive House Institute US Inc. Certified Builders training in preparation for a low-income housing development project on Front Street in Portland.

Pierce Atwood, a law firm in Portland, said that its trusts and estates practice group received a “Band 1” ranking for Private Wealth Law by Chambers and Partners, a London-based publisher of guides to the legal profession. Maine partners Molly Liddell, Jana Magnuson and Barbara Wheaton were also recognized.

Skowhegan Savings Bank said it was recognized by Forbes as the “2021 Best Bank in Maine” and third overall in the nation based on an independent survey of approximately 25,000 U.S. consumers who are asked to rate banks at which they have or previously have had checking accounts.
