Newsworthy people and performances for Dec. 14, 2015 issue

New hires

Camden National Bank hired Mark Stasium as senior vice president, commercial real estate lending officer in Portland. Stasium was previously a senior loan officer in commercial lending at TD Bank.

CES Inc., an engineering, environmental science and surveying firm in Brewer, hired David Brooks, Amanda Wade and Dorota Schweier at its Lewiston branch office. Brooks is a senior project groundwater hydrologist, Wade is a registered professional engineer and Schweier is an environmental technician.

USI Insurance Services LLC in South Portland hired Jack Cowie as vice president of its commercial insurance practice. Cowie most recently was with United Insurance Group as a commercial account executive.

Clark Insurance in Portland hired David Nadeau as an account executive in its business insurance department.

TIQA, a restaurant in Portland, hired Bo Byrne as chef de cuisine, Nicholas Bowen as sous chef and Zara Edwards as beverage director. Byrne was with David's Opus Ten, Bowen was with Ri Ra Irish Pub and Edwards was with Caiola's Restaurant.

St.Germain Collins, an environmental, compliance and engineering firm in Westbrook, hired Sandra Perry, Cheryl Ahearn and Christopher Baldwin. Perry, a senior project manager, was the director of environmental health and safety services with Triumvirate Environmental; Ahearn, an accounting manager, has more than 30 years of experience in business accounting consulting services; and Baldwin, the director of engineering, previously served as district engineer for the Cumberland County Soil & Water Conservation District.

BBSC CPAs in Brewer hired Justin Freeman as a senior accountant.

Spinnaker Trust, a non-depository trust company in Portland, hired Jeannine Pendergast to lead the firm's Employee Stock Ownership Plans offerings. Jeannine Pendergast, a CPA with a corporate finance background, was previously the ESOP trustee for Stewart's Shops Corp.

St. Mary's Health System in Lewiston hired Christopher Chekouras as president and CEO. Chekouras previously served as senior vice president of post-acute and community-based services at Virtua, a southern New Jersey health care system with three hospitals.

Bowdoin International Music Festival in Brunswick hired Casey Oakes as PR and marketing coordinator. Oakes was previously with Maine's Good Theater in Portland.

The Maine Small Business Development Center hired Roy Hebert to operate its York County office.

Vance Gray Wealth Management in Ellsworth hired Andrew Laslie to run its new tax strategy and planning division. Laslie was previously a partner at BHA in Ellsworth.

The Portland Symphony Orchestra hired Laura Retherford as annual fund manager and Samantha Scarf as event and development assistant. Retherford mostly recently served as co-executive director of Girls Inc. in Wayne County, Ind., while Scarf was associate director of the Rufus Porter Museum in Bridgton.

CBRE|The Boulos Co. hired Teodora Strbac and Tim Millett as associates. Strbac was previously a mutual fund accountant with Atlantic Fund Services while Millett was a property manager at Comp Services.

Diversified Communications, an international media company in Portland, hired Erin Prunty as a customer service representative. Prunty was previously with OA Centers for Othopaedics in Portland.

Acadia Hospital in Bangor hired Mark Robert Allen as medical director for pediatric inpatient services. Allen was previously a child and adolescent psychiatrist for the Canterbury District Health Board in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Town & Shore Associates, a real estate brokerage in Portland, hired Whitney Harvey and Lynn Hallett as associate broker/owners.

Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport hired Jessica Rhoades as an audiologist with Speech and Hearing and Pediatric PT/OT.

CEI 7(a) Financing LLC, a subsidiary of CEI Inc., a community development corporation in Brunswick, hired Mary Childs-Mayer as origination and relationship manager. Childs-Mayer was formerly with the National Development Council.

Promotions

Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution promoted Matt Grenier to assistant branch manager in Scarborough. Grenier was previously a branch supervisor in Biddeford.

CEI Inc., a community development corporation in Brunswick, promoted Jennifer Sporzynski to senior program director and Laura Buxbaum to senior vice president, public policy and resource development.

Perry, Fitts, Boulette, and Fitton CPAs in Oakland promoted Janet Audette to senior accountant.

Sappi North America announced several management changes at its Somerset Pulp and Paper Mill in Skowhegan. Mike Haws was promoted to vice president of manufacturing; Tony Ouellette to managing director; John Donahue to vice president, central and wood procurement; Anne Ayer to vice president, fiber resources and corporate development; Annette Luchene to vice president and CFO; Jennifer Miller to chief business sustainability officer; and Deece Hannigan to vice president of coated and packaging business.

Camden National Bank promoted Elliott Barry to senior vice president, commercial banking officer in Portland and Nancy Tracy to senior vice president, retail banking for central and western Maine. Barry was previously vice president, commercial banking officer in Portland while Tracy was vice president, retail regional manager for the southern/central region.

Appointments

Tom Peaco, executive director of the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce, was appointed president of the Midcoast Chamber Council for the 2015-16 fiscal year.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland announced that its board officers will be John Shumadine, Murray, Plumb & Murray, president; Peter Tousignant, TD Bank, vice president; Julie Ray, Perkins Thompson, secretary; and Jeremy Handlon, Dawson, Smith, Purvis & Bassett, treasurer.

CEI Inc., a community development corporation in Brunswick, announced that Keith Bisson was elected to a second term on the Opportunity Finance Network board of directors and Laura Buxbaum was elected to the board of the Housing Assistance Council. Bisson is senior vice president, program management and development with the firm while Buxbaum is senior vice president, public policy and resource development, CEI.

Primmer Piper Eggleston & Cramer PC, a law office in Camden, announced that Gregory Clayton was selected as one of eight mediators statewide for the Maine Residential Real Estate Mediation Program. Clayton is a shareholder with the firm.

The Environmental & Energy Technology Council of Maine elected five members to its board of directors: Kelly Boden, partner, Verrill Dana; Thomas Eschner, senior principal/senior project manager, Woodard & Curran; Michelle Neujahr, director, entrepreneurial center, Southern Maine Community College; Sarah Watts, managing environmental scientist and operations manager, Tetra Tech; and Steve Westra, supply chain project manager, Maine Manufacturing Extension Partnership. Penobscot Community Health Care in Bangor announced that Michael Jones joined its board of directors. Jones is managing partner at BBSC CPAs in Brewer.

Achievements

The Maine Association of Realtors selected Tony McDonald, a broker and partner at CBRE|The Boulos Co., as its 2015 Commercial Realtor of the Year after closing over $17.6 million in sales and nearly 500,000 square-feet of leased space throughout Maine in 2015.

Spring Harbor Hospital, a nonprofit psychiatric hospital in Westbrook, was recognized as a 2014 Top Performer on Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in the U.S. The hospital was recognized as part of the commission's 2015 annual report America's Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety.

Finance Authority of Maine announced its annual award winners including: Camden National Bank, Financial Institution of the Year; Apothecary By Design, Business at Work for Maine Award; Portland Adult Education, Education at Work for Maine Award; Machias Savings Bank, Community Financial Institution of the Year Award; and Hon. Linda Valentino of York County, Dirigo Legislative Champion Award.

Maine Preservation announced its Honor Awards, recognizing excellence in historic preservation throughout the state, and highlighting the importance of preservation, rehabilitation and adaptive use of historic landmarks in Maine.
