Portland company encourages city to expand solar plan

While the city of Portland is considering a proposal to create solar energy farms at a capped landfill, a local renewable energy business is pushing the city to also install solar panels on visible public lands.

The Portland Press Herald reported that Portland-based Renewable Energy Development Associates submitted a plan to city officials Tuesday to install panels on land including Baxter Boulevard and West Commercial Street as a “working work of art” and education project.

Portland city officials presented a proposal last month from ReVision Energy to install solar panels on four city-owned buildings and the city’s 44-acre closed landfill on Ocean Avenue. The proposal could generate about 6% of the electricity used by city and school buildings, according to the Press Herald.
