Friday, a Portland startup that develops communications software for remote work teams, has received $450,000 in seed funding.
The financing round was led by Underscore.vc, a Boston-based venture capital firm that backs “bold early-stage entrepreneurs,” it said in a news release Wednesday.
According to U.S. Census data, the number of full-time remote employees has doubled in the past decade. Friday is trying to capitalize on that trend with a range of virtual tools.
“We created software to help you create better communication habits, helping everyone stay connected at work,” founder Luke Thomas said in the release.
“We see workplace chat as a great way to collaborate, but there’s a need to balance the quick back-and-forth chatter with high-level updates and feedback. You shouldn’t need to sift through the noise to understand what’s going on at work.”
John Pearce, co-founder and partner of Underscore, said, “The future of work is largely remote. Not every employee or company is yet equipped for the shift in tooling and mentality that remote work creates. We’re confident that Luke and the team at Friday are the right people to tackle this impending organizational challenge.”
In August, Friday was one of eight Maine companies sponsored by the nonprofit Startup Maine to attend the TechCrunch Disrupt conference in San Francisco.
