Saco picks developer for train station

The Saco City Council yesterday chose Hardypond Construction of Portland to build a $2.2 million transportation center in the city.

The transportation center will replace an open platform that train passengers of Amtrak's Downeaster used, and will also accommodate a bus terminal. Part of the project will be funded with $500,000 from the sale of land to the developers of Saco Island, Saco City Clerk Lucette Pellerin told Mainebiz this morning.

City officials say they expect the station to be open by late 2008, according to the Portland Press Herald.
