Shipyard named top brewery
Maine's largest microbrewery, Shipyard Brewing Co., recently appeared on the Brewers Association's annual list of top 50 breweries in the country.
The Portland-based brewery placed 15th out of 50 as a craft brewing company, and 27th as an overall brewing company based on its 2007 sales, according to a press release from the Boulder, Colo.-based trade association. A craft brewer produces fewer than 2 million barrels of beer a year, is at least 75% independently owned and has at least 50% of its volume in malt beers.
Shipyard was the only Maine brewery to appear on the list.
