Storm ends ski area's 3-year hiatus

Greenville's Big Squaw Mountain Ski Resort reopened Sunday after a three-year closure.

This weekend's storm gave the resort the impetus to rev back up after it hit hard financial times three years ago and closed.

Since then, resort owner James Confalone leased the area to the nonprofit Friends of Squaw Mountain, which brought the ski area back into operation with the help of volunteers.

The group announced plans to reopen the ski area in January.
