Study: Maine workers in high demand

A study released by the Maine Department of Labor's research agency shows that demand for both skilled and unskilled workers will increase in the coming years, thanks to the retirement of baby boomers.

The Center for Workforce Research and Information study found that the demand for Maine workers could outpace the growth of the workforce through 2014, the Bangor Daily News reported. John Dorrer, the center's director, told the paper that an anticipated upswing in baby boomer retirees would fuel a demand for workers in a variety of industries, but that businesses may have trouble finding trained employees.

Among the jobs projected to be highest in demand are truck drivers, registered nurses, operations managers, and retail and wholesale sales managers, according to the study.
