TD Bank, one of the 10 largest banks in the U.S. and the bank with the largest market share in Maine, plans to close 51 branches nationwide, including three in the Pine Tree State.

The Maine branches are set for closure as of Jan. 29, 2026, according to a bank spokeswoman. They are located at 31 Goding Ave., a shopping center in Lincoln; 835 Main St., in Westbrook; and 217 High St., in Ellsworth.

The move will leave TD Bank with 28 retail locations in Maine.

Last year, the bank closed four Maine locations — in Gorham, Fairfield, Fort Kent and Houlton.

Cherry Hill, N.J.-based TD Bank, a subsidiary of Canadian multinational Toronto-Dominion Bank (NYSE, TSX: TD), is closing branches as part of a revamp outlined to investors last month. The plan includes store upgrades, "tech-forward" digital banking capabilities and personalized, advice-led services.

“We also regularly evaluate our network to ensure we're serving our communities where they need us, which at times results in store closures or relocations to nearby neighborhoods,” the bank said in a statement emailed to Mainebiz on Wednesday.

The statement went on to say that the bank expects to open new stores in communities where it is closing branches, subject to regulatory approval.

“In the meantime, we're committed to making these transitions as smooth as possible for clients and customers, serving them at our 28 Maine TD Bank locations or via whatever channel they choose,” TD Bank said.

With close to $6.5 billion in Maine deposits as of June 30, 2024, TD Bank is the state’s top-ranked bank by market share in the 2025 Mainebiz Book of Lists.

Last year, Don Baker took the reins as TD Bank’s commercial market president of northern New England. He succeeded Larry Wold, who came out of retirement to take a commercial lending role at Bar Harbor Bank & Trust.
