Train could bring riches

The Amtrak Downeaster will generate billions of dollars in economic impact in Maine over the next 20 years, according to a report by the Chicago-based Center for Neighborhood Technology.

The report suggests that development along the railroad corridor could bring $3.3 billion in construction and more than 8,000 new jobs over the next two decades. Extending the line from Brunswick to Rockland would create 2,582 jobs, according to the report.
