UMaine composites center wins national awards

The Advanced Engineered Wood Composites Center at the University of Maine in Orono last week won two of the most prestigious awards in the composites industry at a national conference in Florida.

The American Composites Manufacturers Association presented both The Best of the Best Award and the People's Choice Award to the AEWC center for its Modular Ballistic Protection System, which is designed to fortify U.S. Army tents by mounting composite ballistic panels inside the tent frame, according to a press release.
