UNE, USM land $$ for health care studies

The University of New England and the University of Southern Maine have received nearly $1 million in grants to study health care reform in New England.

UNE and USM are among 15 other research groups around the country that received a combined $5 million last week from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in Princeton, N.J. USM received more than $560,000 to study the affordability of state health plans in Maine, Vermont and Massachusetts.

Meanwhile, UNE's Center for Health Policy, Planning and Research will use its nearly $400,000 grant to study Vermont's efforts to reduce healthcare costs and provide affordable health care coverage for people without insurance.
