Westbrook losing major employer to South Portland

Disability RMS, a disability insurance company with around 350 workers, is planning to leave Westbrook and move to South Portland by early 2016.

The Portland Press Herald reported that the company’s decision to leave was made after it failed to reach a lease renewal agreement with the One Riverfront Plaza property owner.

William Baker, Westbrook's assistant city administrator, told the newspaper that city officials attempted to mediate lease negotiations between Disability RMS and the property owner, even going as far as flying city staff to the property owner’s office in New Jersey.

The company is planning to move into the SouthBorough Office Park in South Portland by early 2016, when its current lease in Westbrook ends.
