Wind farm permitting challenged

A grassroots group is starting a petition drive, hoping to overturn ordinances that allow wind farm development in Roxbury.

Concerned Citizens to Save Roxbury is trying to stop Record Hill Wind LLC's development of a 22-turbine wind farm, which won zoning amendments at a January special town meeting, according to the Sun Journal. The petition calls for another special town meeting to dissolve a newly designated zone for wind farms and to prohibit wind farms as permitted uses.

Roxbury First Selectman John Sutton and Record Hill Wind principal Rob Gardiner told the paper that a majority of residents have twice voted to allow wind-power projects in town and that those decisions should stand.
