The Landing School of Boatbuilding and Design, in Arundel, this week launched a workforce pipeline partners program that aims to connect students and alumni with the marine trades industry.

Founding partners include Barton & Gray Mariners Club, a membership-based boat and services provider in Portsmouth, N.H.; Maryland boatbuilder Belkov Yacht Co.; Great Circle Group, a marine technology venture, and its York affiliate Navtronics; Thomaston boatbuilder Lyman-Morse; and Portland-based Maine Yacht Center.

The Landing School launched the program as a corporate philanthropy initiative designed to invest in the next generation of marine trades professionals.

The program includes a platform for alumni and industry leaders to connect with students, build brand visibility and support the growth of the workforce pipeline. Funding from the initiative is expected to drive market development, marine trade career education, marketing and student recruitment.

“This program is about urgency and opportunity,” said John Caron, the school’s president. “The marine industry is at a turning point — employers need talent now, and students need clear pathways to meaningful careers.”

Funding so far includes $1,000 contributions from Belkov Yacht and Lyman-Morse; $2,500 from Barton & Gray, Maine Yacht Center and Navtronics; and $5,000 from Great Circle.

For employers, participation offers a link to the school’s graduates. For students, the goal is to ensure expanded opportunities and stronger career connections.

“In recruitment, I see every day how critical it is to have a strong, reliable pipeline of new talent,” said Teahgan Bradanick, recruitment coordinator at Barton & Gray.

Earlier this year, the school added to its scholarships of up to $9,000 to students pursuing careers in the marine industry, courtesy of sister boatbuilding firms Sabre Yachts in Raymond and Back Cove Yachts in Rockland.

The Landing School, founded in 1978, prepares students for careers in the marine industry.
