Higher costs, exchange rates, uncertainty about gas prices, political tensions — a number of factors are forcing travelers to rethink their plans this summer.

More than 2 in 5 Americans plan to take a vacation this summer that requires a flight or hotel stay, according to a recent survey by NerdWallet.

Out of more than 2,000 travelers polled by the personal finance website, 85% said they plan to use a credit card to cover some travel expenses.

Nearly a third of travelers who used credit cards to finance trips in 2024 said they still haven’t paid off those bills.

    We live in Maine. Why would anyone go elsewhere in the summer?
