In our Tuesday issue of the Mainebiz Daily Report, sent to Mainebiz members and others, we noted that this year's annual CPI (Christmas Price Index) is up only slightly — the cost of buying your true love all the gifts cited in "The 12 Days of Christmas" is just 0.2% more than in 2018.
PNC Financial Services Group, in Pennsylvania, calculated the 2019 price tag for the holiday song’s goodies at $38,993.59. That’s just $67.56 greater than last year's cost, although a 95% increase from 1984, when PNC began ringing up the index, based on real-world prices each year.
Among the big-ticket gifts for 2019: Seven swans a-swimming will set you back $13,125, while the lords a-leaping are $1,000 per, or $10,000 on the 10th day of Christmas. Fortunately, the price for turtle doves declined 20%, the first such bird bargain since 2004.
Warning: Shameless plug ahead
