Poll results

The new executive director of the Maine Brewers' Guild, Sarah Bryan, calls the state's beer-making industry "the crown jewel of the New England craft scene."

Evidence for such praise was on display at the New England Craft Brew Summit, an industry conference and trade show held March 7 in Portland. Maine brewers and breweries often win national recognition, too.

But there are signs that Americans' thirst for craft beer is becoming slaked.

From January to June last year, craft beer sales declined nationally by 2% according to the Brewers Association — the first time the industry has seen a decrease other than during the pandemic's onset in 2020.

There's also growing competition among states for craft beer dollars, including those that come from beer tourism.

What do think the prospects are for Maine's craft beer industry in the next few years?
Very positive, with Maine a leading producer and destination (33%, 69 VOTES)
Positive, but Maine probably won't be as much of a leader as it has been (37%, 79 VOTES)
Negative, with some fall-off in Maine craft beer sales (24%, 51 VOTES)
Very negative, with a large decline in sales and the industry as a whole (6%, 13 VOTES)
