2026 Goals

In 2025, United Way of Kennebec Valley (UWKV) funded 62 nonprofit and school-based programs throughout the 29 towns of Kennebec County — helping 34,291 people access health care, education and financial security. In total, UWKV provides support for 1 in 4 local people.

UWKV continues to focus on ALICE: our community members who are Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. ALICE represents 40% of Maine households who are below the ALICE Threshold for cost of living — earning above the federal poverty level but still unable to afford life’s basics like housing, childcare, food, transportation, and health care. ALICE households and households in poverty are forced to make tough choices every day, such as deciding between fixing their car or paying for groceries. These choices have long-term consequences for their families and communities alike.

ALICE is our “why” at UWKV. When ALICE struggles, we all feel it. And when ALICE thrives, we all do better. Help us make ALICE UNIGNORABLE.

Fundraising events/Opportunities

Our primary fundraising begins in the fall through our annual campaign, which supports UWKV’s community impact agenda across Kennebec County. Businesses can get involved through workplace campaigns, corporate gifts, or sponsoring key events.

A highlight of the season is our Campaign Kickoff Breakfast in September, which brings together over 300 business and community leaders to celebrate early campaign success, recognize top supporters, and rally momentum for the months ahead.

In October, the Impact2032 Summit convenes change-makers, elected officials, and nonprofit partners to focus on bold, long-term solutions for improving health, education, and financial stability in the region.

Together, these events spark collaboration and inspire action that fuels year-round impact.

Giving Opportunities

UWKV supports local health and human service programs focused on prevention, wellness, early education, and economic well-being. Businesses can make a lasting impact by partnering with us through workplace campaigns, corporate giving, the 365 Small Business Circle, or sponsoring UWKV events and initiatives. One such initiative is Impact2032, a bold, community-driven movement to improve health, education, and financial security across Kennebec Valley by the year 2032. This collaborative effort engages cross-sector partners to identify shared goals and implement long-term solutions.

Research shows that corporate community involvement not only boosts job satisfaction, but also helps attract, engage, and retain high-performing employees.

Volunteer Opportunities

UWKV provides the VolunteerME Kennebec Valley portal to connect local volunteers with nonprofits across central Maine. Whether you have a little time, a lot of time, or simply a passion for helping others, there is a volunteer opportunity waiting for you! In addition to exploring ongoing opportunities through the portal, you can also get involved directly with UWKV. Join our Board of Directors or one of our crucial committees to help guide our mission and investment decisions. You can also volunteer for special events like Day of Caring, where thousands of people unite for youth-focused days of service or support one-time community projects and outreach activities throughout the year.
