Candle maker bringing 40 jobs to Wells
Village Candle Inc. is planning to relocate to Wells this spring, bringing about 40 job openings to the southern Maine town.
The candle maker had proposed moving its manufacturing from Topsham to its 138,000-square-foot warehouse and distribution center in Gardiner, bringing 100 jobs, but scrapped that plan following neighbors' complaints about odors, according to the Kennebec Journal. Instead, the company plans to consolidate in Wells in the former R.R. Donnelley catalog printing facility, which closed in June 2009, owner Paul Aldrich told the Journal Tribune. Village Candle hopes to be operational in Wells by mid-March.
Alrdich told the Kennebec Journal he unsuccessfully searched for a larger location in the Topsham area for two years before attempting to consolidate in Gardiner. All 70 employees at the Gardiner and Topsham facilities have been offered jobs at the new Wells location.
