Small nonprofits will be able to get free access to an employee assistance program for their workforces.
The Portland-based Maine Association of Nonprofits, in partnership with the Maine Community Foundation and KGA, launched the pilot program to provide professional, confidential support for staff and leaders to address personal or work-related challenges.
“Maine’s nonprofit employees are on the front lines of community support, often juggling high demands with limited resources,” said Jennifer Hutchins, the association’s executive director.
Maine Community Foundation provided support for the pilot. KGA is a human resource consulting in Southborough, Mass.
Nonprofits have unique challenges when it comes to supporting staff wellness, according to a news release. About one-third of Maine nonprofit employers report they have access to EAP services. But rising health care costs, increased personal stress and limited organizational capacity make it difficult for small teams to access high-quality support.
The new program helps fill the gap by providing a platform that offers confidential, 24/7 access to services such as counseling and coaching for employees and adult household members and support for supervisors managing workplace concerns or critical incidents.
Additional services include resources for managing stress, work-life balance, financial or legal challenges and grief; and online training and tools to build leadership skills and resilience.
The program is open to eligible association members on a first-come, first-served basis. The association will offer scholarships and dues flexibility to organizations that need assistance to join.
An informational session is scheduled on Jan. 15, 2026, from 1-2 p.m.
