Pirates name majority owner Cain CEO

The Portland Pirates have named majority owner Ron Cain as the team’s CEO, stepping in for Brian Petrovek who will serve as the company’s president of business development after years at the helm of the minor hockey league team.

The Bangor Daily News reported the team will also bring on former player and first-round NHL draft pick Brad Church as the team’s chief operating officer, who will become the new “face” of the organization. The leadership shakeup follows more than six months of turbulent negotiations between the previous majority owner and CEO Petrovek and the board of trustees for the Cumberland County Civic Center. A stalemate in those negotiations, since resolved, resulted in the team playing its home games for this season in Lewiston.
