A Bangor logistics firm leases key warehouse space in East Millinocket

A Bangor logistics company has signed a major lease in East Millinocket.

Lynch Logistics Inc. leased 50,000 square feet of industrial space from the town of East Millinocket. The site is at 50 Main St. and had, in the 1990s, been a newsprint facility for Great Northern Paper/Katahdin Paper Co.

The site offers quick access to I-95 and has a rail shed that will be resurrected, offering a truck-to-rail option. 

The deal was brokered by TC Haffenreffer, Sylas Hatch and Tom Dunham from the Dunham Group.

“Lynch is a good client of ours. They’re based in Bangor and have sites down to southern Maine,” said Haffenreffer. “But when you’re looking for logistics space, there’s lots of demand but there’s no vacancy.” 

Haffenreffer worked with colleague Tom Dunham, a Dunham Group principal, who has a longstanding relationship with the town of East Millinocket. Mike Michaud at the town selectman board was helpful, as was Steve Fraser, CEO of East Millinocket Industrials Inc.

Lynch Logistics handles all kinds of trucking and logistics services, with other locations in Bangor, Herman, Veazie and Auburn. It also has an office in South Portland. Four sites in those towns alone have in excess of 340,000 square feet of warehouse space.

This is where you go if you need loading docks, 25-foot ceilings and forklifts that can handle 9,000 pounds. Or drive-in overhead doors for interior unloading. 

In brief, Lynch offers dry storage, product fulfillment, inventory management, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and barcoding, secure facility management, food-grade storage and so on. All within quick proximity to major highways and railroads. 

More than logistics

The Lynch Family of Cos. is family owned — and also went through a leadership transition as of Jan. 1.

Ray Lynch stepped down as president, and will serve as an advisor, with Ray's son Ryan Lynch stepping in as president. Dana Burleigh, a longtime employee, was promoted to executive vice president. Chris Haynes, a former Poland Springs senior executive, was brought on as vice president of operations.

A growing footprint

With the East Millinocket deal, Lynch Logistics now has more than 450,000 square feet of indoor storage space, plus outdoor space. 

Dana Burleigh, who is executive vice president at Lynch Logistics, told Mainebiz the abundance of storage space is key to offering clients an end-to-end "one-stop shop." Lynch offers transportation alternatives — including flat-bed trucks, enclosed tractor-trailers and, in certain situations, rail connections. It also offers storage options, whether for dry storage or heated use.

Lynch Logistics works with a range of industries, including solar companies that have large storage needs, paper mills, food producers, building materials companies, auto parts manufacturers, animal vaccine producers. One of its clients needs transportation and storage for dog and fish food.

Many clients would rather outsource their storage needs, which is why indoor storage is important. This is important for companies with limited resources to lease or build warehouses. 

Working with Dunham Group, Lynch Logistics will continue its search for real estate.

"We're looking up and down the I-95 corridor," said Burleigh. "We're looking for southern Maine sites."
