Just a few months after scooping up Union Bluff Hotel on the York waterfront, a large hospitality firm from Massachusetts has acquired a resort that’s been part of the midcoast fabric for generations.

Giri Hotel Management bought Sebasco Harbor Resort, whose grounds cover over 400 acres in Phippsburg and whose history spans more than 90 years. The sale price was not disclosed.

Giri already has 46 New England properties, nearly half of which are in Maine. The company represents hotel brands ranging from Hilton Garden Inn to the Comfort Inn.

The seller is Bob Smith, who has owned the resort since 1997.

“It is time for me to retire,” Smith said in a news release. “I’m looking forward to more time with my family and grandkids.”

Smith said he has known the owners and team at Giri for a while, and added that the property aligns with the company’s growth strategy.

“We believe we’ve found the right buyer who is equally passionate about honoring the 92-year tradition of hospitality at Sebasco, and I will be available to assist in the transition process to the new ownership of Sebasco Harbor Resort,” he said.

Smith has invested over $14 million in the property during his tenure. His investment for 2022 includes a newly redesigned and rebuilt pool, the largest outdoor saltwater pool of its kind in Maine, according to the release.

“This resort has a rich history of serving generations of families who spend every summer in Maine,” said Giri Hotels Regional Director of Operations Nazba Jenulevich.

The seasonal resort has 450 acres of woodland, waterfront, gardens and a golf course, and five types of lodging that encompass 47 rooms, 23 suites and 22 stand-alone cottages that range from one to 10 bedrooms.
