Auburn teams with Staples to launch business startup promotion

The city of Auburn has partnered with the Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Staples Connect to launch an initiative called Startup Auburn in an effort to attract and encourage new businesses.

The city said it will begin to accept applications for Startup Auburn in mid-November and those interested in applying should watch for details at goauburn.me.

Three entrepreneurs will be selected from the applicants and will receive perks such as four months use of a dedicated desk in the coworking space at Staples Connect, marketing and communications consulting from Auburn Mayor Jason Levesque and the LA Metro Chamber of Commerce, a one-year entrepreneur membership at the LA Metro Chamber of Commerce and a $500 Staples gift card.

"This is a great example of how business and municipalities in this region partner to invest in the success of entrepreneurs and small businesses,” said Shanna Cox, president and CEO of the LA Metro Chamber. “When a startup has access to the resources and support offered here, it gives them a leg up into business ownership and success. We are invested in each business's success because we know that leads to a strong local economy."

“Auburn is a thriving community with a large population of small businesses and entrepreneurs,” said Staples Connect General Manager Jameson Rodrigues. “Our team is so grateful for the opportunity to help with their continued growth through the Startup Auburn initiative, and to serve as a partner through the upgraded products and services in our new store.”

Staples Connect is a "reimagined" office supply store, featuring space for coworking and podcasting, introduced last year by Boston-based retail giant Staples Inc. Auburn's first Staples Connect opened last weekend at 89 Union St.

The city's initiative comes just a day after Auburn's neighbor, Lewiston, announced a winner in a competition to bring startup businesses there. Rusty Bus Brewing Co. won JumpstartME, a competition to attract new businesses to Lewiston’s Downtown Business District.
