The Augusta Downtown Alliance, whose mission is to enhance the economic vitality and cultural vibrancy of downtown Augusta, has hired Isabelle Oechslie as the organization’s new executive director.
The appointment coincides with a busy period for Augusta, with several major construction projects underway.
Oechslie fills a role previously held by Jeremy Ashlock, who announced his resignation in July, just over a year into the job.
She will begin full-time with the nonprofit in late October.
"Isabelle stood out to us because she combines technical expertise with an enthusiastic, community-focused approach,” said Heather Pouliot, board member and chair of the hiring committee. “She is ready to be the face of our downtown, and we believe she will bring fresh energy and strong leadership to the organization.”
In this role, she will oversee Augusta Downtown Alliance initiatives focused on partnerships, local business support and downtown Augusta’s economic development.
Oechslie brings extensive experience in planning, economic development and historic preservation, having worked with municipalities such as Saco, South Portland and Damariscotta, as well as through her own consulting business, IOV Community Planning and Consulting.
Oechslie received her bachelor's degree in political science and government and her master's in policy, planning and management from the University of Southern Maine.
“Her energy, creativity and proven experience in working with downtowns across Maine will be a tremendous asset to Augusta," said Victoria Abbott, president of the Augusta Downtown Alliance board. "We are excited to see her vision come to life as we continue to grow and strengthen our downtown.”
