Big Papi takes a swing at Maine cannabis market

Papi Cannabis Papi Cannabis, a cannabis line developed by leading Massachusetts cannabis retailer and wholesaler Rev Brands and MLB Hall of Famer David Ortiz, is entering the Maine market.

Papi Cannabis, a line of products developed with Major League Baseball Hall of Famer David Ortiz, is blowing into Maine through a partnership with JAR Cannabis Co.

The partnership marks Papi Cannabis’ entry into the Maine market at the beginning of April, when Ortiz's line of cannabis products will be available at JAR Cannabis stores. The line was developed between Ortiz and Rev Brands, a  Massachusetts retailer and wholesaler of cannabis products.

Founded in 2012 by two of the state’s earliest medical marijuana caregivers, JAR Cannabis has been a part of Maine’s regulated cannabis industry from the very start. Operated by longtime friends, JAR’s products reflect a lifestyle in which cannabis is part of an overall holistic approach to a balanced, adventurous and healthy life.

The cannabis company has recreational stores in Portland, South Portland, Newry and Windham. It also has a medicinal shop in Windham.

Expanding his brand to New England’s second-largest cannabis market is a big step in helping bolster his premium cannabis brand throughout New England, the spokesperson said.

“Through David Ortiz’s time as a Red Sox player and beyond, he’s represented New England with pride, integrity and character and it was important to us to launch with a retail partner that holds the same values. Expanding his brand to New England’s second- largest cannabis market is a big step in helping bolster his premium cannabis brand throughout all of New England," said Tom Schneider, chief marketing officer at Rev Brands.

“Sweet Sluggers” pre-rolls.

Sweet Sluggers, the first Papi Cannabis product to launch, is a pre-rolled blunt filled with "the finest flower of Ortiz’s favorite strains." Sweet Sluggers will be available for purchase at JAR Cannabis locations as a single pre-rolled blunt packaged in a tube made of 100% reclaimed ocean plastic for $18 or as a three-pack for $50 beginning around April 2023.

“Growing up as an athlete in Maine and Red Sox fan, it’s an absolute honor and a dream come true to be working with David in Maine’s Cannabis Industry,” said Joel Pepin, JAR co-owner and co-founder.
