BIW union leaders file suit

The four suspended leaders of Bath Iron Works' Local S6 union on Monday filed a federal lawsuit against their parent union and officers.

Michael Keenan, Troy Osgood, Michael Cyr and Cathy London claim their suspension from the local union violated federal labor laws and that allegations by the parent union of financial mismanagement and viewing pornography have defamed them, the Portland Press Herald reported. The suit, filed in the U.S. District Court in Portland, names as defendants the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, District Lodge 4, IAMAW President R. Thomas Buffenbarger and four union officers.

John Carr, a spokesman for the international union, told the Times Record that the suit is "completely lacking in merit and we intend to vigorously defend against it."
