Dempsey Center promotes interim leader to permanent role

The Dempsey Center, headquartered in Lewiston with a second location at Rock Row in Westbrook, has promoted Brandon Hotham to president and CEO.

Founded in 2008 by actor Patrick Dempsey and his family, the Dempsey Center was created in honor of his mother’s cancer journey and to give back to his hometown of Lewiston.

Hotham, who has served as interim president and CEO since February, joined the Dempsey Center in 2022 as director of client experience and later chief experience officer.

“I am honored to be entrusted with this role,” said Hotham. “Every day, I see the profound difference the Dempsey Center makes in the lives of people impacted by cancer. I look forward to working alongside our incredible team, volunteers and philanthropic supporters to expand our reach and ensure compassionate, high-quality services remain accessible to all who need them. This work is personal to me, and I’m grateful to serve this organization.”

Before joining the Dempsey Center, Brandon gained extensive experience across the health care landscape, including roles with the Maine Health Management Coalition (now the Healthcare Purchaser Alliance of Maine), Martin’s Point Health Care, Central Maine Healthcare, Grand Rounds Health/Included Health and Kooth Digital Health.

His work has spanned public health reporting, practice operations, risk adjustment, accountable care quality improvement, and national program launches in both clinical and digital health settings.

The Lewiston native earned his bachelor's degrees in psychology and English, and his master's in public health, from the University of New England.

“I couldn’t be more pleased to see Brandon step into this role permanently,” said Dempsey. “His commitment to our mission and to the people we serve has been clear from the start. As someone born and raised in this community, Brandon brings not only professional expertise but also a deep, personal understanding of Maine and the people we serve.

“The heart, expertise, and vision he brings will ensure that the Dempsey Center continues to grow while staying true to its purpose of making life better for people impacted by cancer. I have great confidence in his leadership and in the future of the center under his guidance.”

Today, the center has two locations, in Lewiston and Westbrook, a hospitality home in Portland and a virtual platform. The Dempsey Center offers supportive cancer care programs addressing the physical, emotional, social, and functional well-being of people impacted by cancer.
