Developer still envisions OOB marina

A developer whose proposal last summer for an off-shore marina prompted an 18-month moratorium on development in Saco Bay is back to pitch his idea.

Bill Danton plans to appear before the Old Orchard Beach town council tonight to discuss his $9 million plan to build two large platforms in Saco Bay as berths for cruise ships and other large vessels, according to the Portland Press Herald. Danton will address the town council informally, during an open public comment session.

Last summer, Danton received the Saco city council's endorsement to build the Grand Ocean Highway project in waters off of Old Orchard Beach that Saco had retained ownership of when the communities split more than a century ago. But resistance from Old Orchard Beach officials prompted the Legislature to pass a moratorium on development in Saco Bay that begins this summer.
