Education Commissioner Bowen resigns

Maine's Education Commissioner Stephen Bowen has resigned to take a job with a national education nonprofit.

According to a press release, Bowen gave his resignation, effective Sept. 12, to Gov. Paul LePage earlier today. He has led the state's education department since LePage took office in 2010.

Bowen will leave the state leadership post to become director of innovation for the Council of Chief State School Officers.
