Ex-Baldacci staffer opens Bangor PR firm

An Old Town native and former local radio personality has left the governor's press office to start his own public relations firm.

Dan Cashman gave up his job as Gov. John Baldacci's assistant press secretary in August to open Cashman Communications in Bangor, a full-service PR firm. Cashman says he had been considering branching out on his own for about two years, and was eager to work closer to his home in Brewer.

Drawing on his experience in radio, television and communications, Cashman plans to offer services ranging from media coaching to ad campaigns to event planning, he says. His clients include the State Planning Office and Maine Department of Conservation, for which he's publicizing offshore wind demonstration sites, and Skanden Energy, a biomass heating equipment firm in Sumner.

The son of Public Utilities Commissioner Jack Cashman, Dan Cashman took his job with the governor's office in 2005. He previously served as promotions director for Cumulus Broadcasting and hosted midday programming on radio station Z107.3. At age 19, he hosted "The Nite Show" on Bangor's WB affiliate, and later went on to intern for Don Imus.
