F. Lee Bailey OK'd to practice in Maine

Famed defense attorney F. Lee Bailey has won permission to practice law in the state after being turned down by the state bar association late last year.

The Bangor Daily News reported Maine Supreme Judicial Court Justice Donald Alexander ruled in Bailey's favor after a hearing Friday.

Bailey, who most famously represented O.J. Simpson, began contesting the 5-4 Maine Board of Bar Examiners decision turning down his bid to practice law in the state during hearings in March.

The attorney representing Bailey argued that his client's outstanding federal tax debt should not, alone, prevent his client from practicing law in the state.

The paper reported that Bailey could begin practicing as soon as he takes the oath administered to all attorneys in Maine.
