FAA awards $1.3M to Portland International Jetport

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, chairwoman of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, announced Monday that the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded $1.3 million to the Portland International Jetport to support the installation of a photovoltaic solar panel array on an airport parking garage roof to increase energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

“The Portland International Jetport is a vital piece of our transportation infrastructure that helps connect Maine to the rest of the country and the world,” Collins said in a news release. “By increasing the Portland Jetport’s energy efficiency, this investment will help improve the airport’s sustainability as it continues to serve passengers and fuel economic growth.”

The grant funding was awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration, an agency within the DOT.
