Tilson, a Portland-based network deployment and IT professional services firm with a growing national presence has promoted Kelly Brewer to chief operating officer.

In her new role, announced on Tuesday, Brewer will lead Tilson’s ongoing operational growth and oversee more than 500 professionals nationwide.

Her expanded responsibilities include oversight and strategic integration of Tilson’s high-performing consulting division.

Brewer, who has been with the company since 2011, previously served as executive vice president of telecommunications, leading Tilson’s telecom units and overseeing the strategic planning and business development of its largest division.

She has also established and led Tilson’s self-performing tower construction and engineering divisions serving wireline, wireless and utility customers, and the company credited her with helping drive Tilson’s double- and triple-digit growth, particularly in engineering and construction self-performance capability.

“Kelly is a trailblazer and major contributor to Tilson’s incredible growth, said Joshua Broder, Tilson's CEO and a 2018 Mainebiz Business Leader of the Year, in a news release.

“This promotion is a clear reflection of our commitment to building America’s information infrastructure which requires a proven leader with strategic vision, unlimited capacity and my complete confidence."

Brewer said she looks forward to taking on the expanded role and deepening the integration between Tilson's operating units.

“It’s an honor to be a part of, and lead, such an exceptional team who are committed to improving connectivity for Americans," she added. "Our mission to build America’s information infrastructure has never felt so critical and I look forward to supporting Tilson’s continued growth and success.”

For the last 10 years, Tilson has been recognized on the Inc. 500 list as one of America’s fastest-growing private companies.

It was one of a dozen Maine companies on the most recent list unveiled last week, and noted that only 113 companies have made the list 10 years in a row.

Brewer's promotion comes as the company continues to grow and hire nationwide.

About 10% of its workforce are veterans, including Broder and Adria Horn, the firm's vice president of workforce leading HR, talent acquisition, safety and marketing and design.

In an "On the Record" interview with Mainebiz published last month, Horn shared some insights into the firm's hiring, onboarding and interviewing practices during the pandemic.

Asked about the hardest positions to fill and why, she said, "Business leader management positions are the hardest and most impactful to fill for culture, fit and critical thinking for a fast-paced, growth company."
