Fed Up With Taxes fined $10k

Fed Up With Taxes, the political action committee that succeeded in defeating the proposed new taxes on beer, wine and soda on the Nov. 4 ballot, is being fined $10,000 for filing campaign finance reports late.

The Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices yesterday imposed a $10,000 fine, the maximum penalty, on Fed Up With Taxes for failing to file two campaign finance reports, which reported total expenditures of roughly $750,000, on time, according to the Kennebec Journal. State law requires PAC expenditures to be reported within 24 hours if there are fewer than 14 days to go before an election, the paper said.

Portland attorney William Dale, hired by Fed Up With Taxes to handle the campaign finance reports, asked the commission to waive the fine and said the filings were late because he simply forgot, the paper reported.
