Federal regulators approve CMP project

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission last Thursday conditionally approved rate incentives for Central Maine Power's $1.4 billion transmission project, which will boost the capacity of Maine's power grid, according to the Bangor Daily News.

The proposed upgrade includes 245 miles of new 345-kilovolt transmission line from Orrington to Portsmouth, N.H., and 74 miles of new 115-kilovolt transmission line, among other improvements, and will give the company $1.85 billion in transmission infrastructure -- six times more than it currently has, the paper reported. CMP announced its plan in February.

FERC's approval is subject to ISO-New England including the project in its regional system plan as a reliability transmission upgrade, the paper reported.
