FERC dismisses LNG application

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has dismissed an application from Quoddy Bay LNG to build a liquefied natural gas terminal on Passamaquoddy Tribe land on Pleasant Point, due to a lack of information on the project.

In a letter sent Friday to the Oklahoma-based developer, FERC attributed the dismissal to Quoddy Bay's failure to provide additional information the agency requested in October 2007, as well as information on possible revisions to the project the company announced in February 2008. FERC suspended review of Quoddy Bay LNG's application in April 2008 because it did not have enough information to proceed with its engineering review or environmental impact statement, according to the letter.

Don Smith, president of Quoddy Bay LNG, told the Bangor Daily News that the dismissal was "not news to me," and that it would not change the company's plans but delay the project by a few years. FERC's letter states the company can file for a new application once the proposal is finalized.
