James Morin, honored on Mainebiz's Next list in 2019 along with the founders of Flowfold, is leaving the company to start a new chapter in Austin, Texas.

He leaves after close to four years with the Gorham-based niche textile manufacturer as its chief operating officer and president of sales. The company was founded in 2010 by Charles Friedman and Devin McNeill, Morin's classmates at the University of Maine.

Morin announced his departure in a LinkedIn post last week that's generated 400-plus likes and 80 comments in four days, including from people who said they didn't know him personally but were inspired by him.

"Today is a bittersweet day as I officially say goodbye to my Flowfold family," Morin wrote on LinkedIn. "I know that this will come as a huge shock to many of you, but I wouldn’t be leaving if I didn’t have complete faith and confidence in the team I’m leaving behind. I’m leaving at a time of great pride as the company continues to pivot to making Hospital PPE [personal protective equipment] for our healthcare heroes, and I have never been more confident that Flowfold will come out of the COVID-19 pandemic stronger than ever.

He added: "I love every single Flowfold employee, every Flowfold customer, and every Flowfold ambassador, champion, and advocate I’ve met along the way. You all mean the world to me."

Morin updated his profile this week to announce his new position as chief strategy officer at Crave Retail.

Earlier in the week, McNeill told Mainebiz via email: "We are sad to see James go and wish him the best of luck on his next adventure."

The move comes as Flowfold ramps up production of protective face shields to fill an order from the Maine Center for Disease Control for 500,000 shields.

The company recently doubled its workforce to 16, and expects to double it again soon to meet growing demand, Morin told Mainebiz recently.
