Blake Orchard, a purveyor of smoothie drinks, bowls and other plant-based concoctions in Portland and Brunswick, is about to mix things up with a third cafe in the town of Scarborough.

The Scarborough spot, set to open on May 31 in a newly constructed building, faces U.S. Route 1 at 2 Stewart Drive. That's about a 15-minute drive from Pine Point Beach and 10 minutes from Scarborough Beach.

“We loved the idea of being closer to all of our favorite beaches and catering to our southern Maine towns,” Alexandra Blake Basinet, the company's founder and owner, told Mainebiz.

Basinet was honored on the Mainebiz 40 Under 40 list in 2024. Less than a year later, she's more than halfway to her "audacious" goal of owning and operating five Blake Orchard locations.

"Just like any growth, we have faced challenges, but as a team, we have overcome them," she said more than a decade after starting the business. I feel very fortunate to have the freedom and opportunities to work on my dreams alongside some amazing people. More to come in the future."

Menus at all three locations include smoothie drinks, raw cold-pressed juices, matcha, ‘superfood’ coffees and smoothie bowls made with fruit and gluten-free granola, peanut butter and milk.

"Our goal is to show the world that healthy food can taste like a treat,” Basinet said.

About the new spot

The new Scarborough space is 1,500 square feet and will accommodate up to 30 people inside, with additional seating on an outdoor patio.

"It's been really fun to design a space from scratch,” said Basinet. "The interior is freshly built and was designed to be warm, bright and have a natural and inviting aesthetic.

"A lot of raw materials were used, such as natural finished woods, handmade tiles, rattan and raw brass light fixtures, repurposed furniture pieces and doors, woven chairs, and of course, our signature wallpaper," she continued. "We love to mix new with old to create a very balanced and lived-in feel, especially with a brand new build.”

The cafe will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Basinet says there is potential for extended weekend summer hours.
