Gamblers wager $5.6M on casino's first day

Roughly 9,000 visitors to Hollywood Slots Hotel and Raceway in Bangor dropped $5.6 million into the new facility's 1,000 slot machines on its opening day last week, according to the Bangor Daily News. That number includes recycled winnings that were bet again.

After taxes, Penn National Gaming's first-day net gaming revenue was $422,674, according to numbers from the Maine Gambling Control Board and reported by the paper. Hollywood Slots pays a combination of taxes that amounts to 51 cents out of every dollar of its net revenue, the paper said.

Daily wagers since Hollywood Slots' opening day have ranged from a low of $1 million to $3 million during the Fourth of July weekend, the paper said.
