After three decades of leadership, Jamie Wright, the founder and owner of Gorham Bike & Ski, announced his retirement and the transition of ownership to longtime employee and friend, Dan Vaillancourt of Saco.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Wright founded Gorham Bike & Ski in 1995, launching the business from a small storefront in downtown Gorham.

Today, the retailer no longer has a Gorham store, but it is in five Maine locations: Waterville, Brunswick, Portland, Saco and Wells.

“What started as a small dream turned into something far greater than I could have imagined,” said Wright. “The most meaningful part has been our involvement in the community — whether through trail building, race promotion, women’s events or simply working with our incredible staff and loyal customers.”

Vaillancourt brings more than 20 years of cycling industry experience to his role as owner. A former professional cyclist, he has also held positions at the custom frame builder Seven Cycles and spent many years at Gorham Bike & Ski. For the past five years, he served as general manager.

“Gorham Bike & Ski is more than just a store — it’s a cornerstone of the cycling and ski community in Maine,” said Vaillancourt. “I look forward to continuing our tradition of excellent customer service while embracing new opportunities to grow and support our local riders, skiers and outdoor enthusiasts.”
