New hires

Ogletree Deakins, a labor and employment law firm in Portland representing management, hired Byrne Decker as managing shareholder, Steven Silver as associate and Scott Pomeroy as counsel. All three were previously with Pierce Atwood.

Camden National Bank hired Donna Ehrler as senior vice president, director of commercial banking for the New Hampshire region and Kevin McGoff, Michael Gillis and Heath Mink as mortgage loan officers serving customers from Boston to southern New Hampshire. Ehrler brings 35 years of corporate banking experience to the position, McGoff most recently served as a senior loan officer at Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union, Gillis was and an assistant vice president, mortgage loan officer at People's United Bank and Mink was a senior loan officer at Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union.

Ocean Approved Inc., a harvester and distributor of kelp and kelp products in Portland, hired Briana Warner as CEO. Warner was previously senior community development officer at the Island Institute.

University Credit Union in Orono hired Eric Byther as facilities manager. Byther has 30 years of experience in commercial and residential construction, the majority of those years spent as a business owner.

The Maine Department of Labor in Augusta hired Daniel Bolduc as director of the Bureau of Labor Standards. Bolduc joins the department with 30 years of work in the private sector as both an insurance agent and the owner and operator of his own insurance firm.

Androscoggin Bank in Lewiston hired Lisa McAuliffe as vice president, treasury services officer based in Portland. McAuliffe was most recently at Northeast Bank.

The Connectivity Group, a design/build technology infrastructure and integration company in Falmouth, hired Brandon Byrom as project manager/estimator, Karen Knights as executive administrative assistant/office manager, Deborah Fritzson as finance manager and Theresa Soucie as accounting analyst.

SMRT Architects and Engineers in Portland hired Jeff Talka as life science practice leader. Talka has 30 years of experience designing specialty research, laboratory, vivarium, health care and corporate facilities for clients in the pharmaceutical and life science, healthcare, education and government sectors.

The Maine Credit Union League and its service subsidiary, Synergent, hired Tim Brooks as vice president of corporate marketing and Jennifer Burke as regulatory and legislative advocacy coordinator. Brooks most recently worked as director of technology for Energy Circle LLC while Burke operated her own consulting firm.

Promotions

Tami Kilcollins was promoted to executive director of the Jefferson Cary Foundation at the Cary Medical Center in Caribou. Kilcollins, who was previously a member of the foundation's public relations office, replaces Mary Harrigan who announced her retirement after leading the foundation for two decades.

Gorham Savings Bank promoted Matt Early to senior business development officer of the bank's commercial team and Karl Suchecki to director of commercial banking.

Katahdin Trust in Houlton promoted Tori Barber, Sunny Flannery and Debbie Schillinger to assistant vice president and Joe Clukey and Peggy Smith to vice president. Barber was previously branch manager and retail services officer in Mars Hill, Flannery was branch manager and retail services officer in Hampden, Schillinger was branch manager in Island Falls and Oakfield, Clukey was assistant vice president, retail services officer and Smith was branch manager in Caribou and Van Buren.

Machias Savings Bank promoted Jonathan Alley to vice president, customer service manager; Melissa Moffett to vice president, corporate giving and community relations; Miranda Smith to vice president, branch manager, Machias; Krystle Currier to retail loan administration manager; and Charlene Cates to vice president, marketing and community impact.

Geiger, a promotional products distributor in Lewiston, promoted Kaitlynne Gibson to business development manager and Nicole Ross and Kelly Miller-Craft to merchandising specialists. Gibson was previously a program manager, Ross was a merchandising and marketing support specialist in Crestline and Miller-Craft was a merchandising specialist.

Mercy Hospital in Portland promoted Michael Duffy to senior physician executive. Since joining the hospital in 2010, Duffy has assumed roles that include regional physician executive, medical director of primary care as well as serving as the vice president of the Mercy Medical Group since 2016.

Maine College of Art in Portland promoted Mary Anne Lloyd to chair and assistant professor of illustration. Lloyd was previously chair of illustration.

Baxter State Park Authority promoted Eben Sypitkowski to park director. Sypitkowski was resource manager and manager of the park's Scientific Forest Management Area.

Maine Community College System promoted Joseph Cassidy to president of Southern Maine Community College and Susan Mingo to president of Washington County Community College, effective Aug. 1. Cassidy is currently president of Washington County Community College while Mingo is dean of enrollment management and student services at Washington County Community College.

Appointments

The Maine Community College System board of trustees re-elected Jean Ginn Marvin as chair and William Cassidy as vice-chair. Marvin is innkeeper at the Nonamtum Resort in Kennebunkport and Cassidy is the former president of Washington County Community College. In addition, the board added Kimberly Lindlof and Nicki Fowlie to its board, after each was nominated by Gov. Paul LePage and confirmed by the legislature. Lindlof is president and CEO of Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce and executive director of the Central Maine Growth Council while Fowlie, who will serve a two-year term as student trustee, is a 2017 graduate of Southern Maine Community College's fire science technology program and is currently enrolled in the college's paramedicine program.

The Association for Consulting Expertise, a nonprofit association of independent business consultants in Scarborough, elected Priscilla Hansen Mahoney as president, Terry Johnson vice president, Jim Casey secretary and Malcolm Poole treasurer of its board. Mahoney is with Blazing Trails Coaching, Johnson is vice president of Practical Decisions, Jim Casey is with Casey Communications and Poole is with Malcolm Poole Coaching and Consulting. In addition, Peggy Siegle, Carrie Yardley, Kathleen Grammer, Doreen Rockstrom and Gerard Bianco were added as board members.

Waynflete, a private school in Portland, said that Abukar Adan, Krista Maywalt Aronson and Betsy Langer joined its board of trustees. Adan is a reporter at Maine Public Radio, Aronson is an associate professor of psychology at Bates College and Langer has been a teacher for the past 42 years. In addition, the school announced board officer appointments for 2018-2019 including Christopher Smith, president; Tim Soley, vice president; Dale Lewis, secretary; Vin Veroneau, treasurer and Kate Jeton and Warren Valdmanis, members-at-large; and that Conan Deady, Erica Schair-Cardona, Mark Segar, Susan Spagnola and Bill Torrey were appointed trustees emeriti.

United Way of Greater Portland made several additions to its board of trustees: Xavier Botana, superintendent, Portland Public Schools; Michael Bourque, president and CEO, MEMIC Group; Chris Claudio, CEO and co-founder, Winxnet; Andrea Gordon, senior vice president, core segment, Unum US; Quincy Hentzel, CEO, Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce; and Kierston Van Soest, CFO, L.L.Bean.

The Maine Bankers Association elected Patricia Weigel, president and CEO of Norway Savings Bank, as chair and Tony McKim, president and CEO of First National Bank, as vice chair. In addition, William Tracy, president and CEO of Auburn Savings Bank, and Robert Quentin, president and CEO of Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution, were elected to the association's executive committee for three-year terms expiring June 2021; John Witherspoon, president and CEO, Skowhegan Savings Bank, was elected for a two-year term expiring June 2020; and William Williamson, state president, Bank of America NA, was elected for a one-year term expiring June 2019.

Charlie Therrien, president of Mercy Hospital and a senior vice president of Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems, was named chair of the Maine Hospital Association board of directors. Other officers include Peter Sirois, CEO at Northern Maine Medical Center, immediate past chair; David Frum, president, Bridgton Hospital and Rumford Hospital, chair-elect; John Ronan, president, Blue Hill Memorial Hospital and Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, treasurer; and Steve Diaz, vice president and chief medical officer, MaineGeneral Health, secretary. Kris Doody, CEO, Cary Medical Center, and Jeff Brickman, CEO, Central Maine Healthcare, joined the board.

The Institute for Family-Owned Business in Portland added Patricia Camelio, senior vice president of People's United Bank, to its board of directors.

The Maine Credit Union League board of directors elected its 2018-19 officers including Tucker Cole, president and CEO, Maine State Credit Union, board chair; Joann Bisson, president and CEO, Trademark Federal Credit Union, vice chair; David Desjardins, president and CEO, Acadia Federal Credit Union, secretary; and Scott Chretien, president and CEO, York County Federal Credit Union, treasurer. Joining the board was Christine Devine, president and CEO of KV Federal Credit Union.

Coastal Enterprises Inc., which helps to grow good jobs, environmentally sustainable enterprises, and shared prosperity in Maine and rural regions across the country, announced that Catherine Godschalk, Beth Mattingly, Justin Maxson and Stewart Smith were named to its board of directors. In addition, Christa Velasquez was elected as chair and Susan Hammond vice chair of the board of directors. Godschalk manages Bethesda, Md.-based Calvert Impact Capital's investments team; Mattingly is director of research on vulnerable families at the Carsey School of Public Policy at the University of New Hampshire; Maxson manages the overall operations of the Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation in Winston-Salem, N.C.; Smith is professor emeritus of sustainable agriculture policy at the University of Maine; Velasquez is an independent consultant in Chicago; and Hammond is executive director of Four Directions Development Corp. in Orono.

Achievements

MaineWorks, an employment company in Portland, was recognized in the “Best for Customers” list by B Lab, which includes businesses that earned a customer score in the top 10% of more than 2,400 Certified B Corporations on the B Impact Assessment.

Melanie Spencer, a grants professional consultant in Hampden, earned a Grant Professional Certified designation from the Grant Professionals Certification Institute Inc., an affiliate of the Grant Professionals Association.

Verrill Dana, a law firm in Portland, was rated as a leading firm in seven Maine categories and three sub-categories evaluated by Chambers & Partners, a legal research and publishing firm. In addition, 27 of the firm's Portland-based attorneys were acknowledged as leading lawyers in their respective fields. The firm also said Tim Shannon, an intellectual property attorney, was recognized as a “Global IP Star” for the fourth consecutive year in Managing Intellectual Property's 2018/19 IP Stars Guide. The firm was also listed as a “Recommended Firm” in Maine for its intellectual property practice.
