New hires

BlueWater Emergency Partners, a physician-owned emergency medicine group in Brunswick that staffs and manages emergency departments and walk-in clinics in Maine, hired William Henson as executive director. Henson was formerly the chief operating officer of TRP Management, an urgent care group in Atlanta, Ga.

Jeff Solari's Sports Chowdah, a free sports email newsletter, hired Trevor Fogarty as a member of its sales and client-relations department.

Dream Local Digital, a digital marketing agency in Rockland, hired Amber Anderson as digital production manager.

Maine Public Relations Council, a statewide trade association based in Portland, hired Dana Lundy as administrative director.

The Portland Conservatory of Music hired Maria Belva to direct Girl Singers of Maine. Belva was previously the founder and director of the Grand Monadnock Youth Choirs, a youth choir in three sections for singers in grades 2 through 12.

Lean East, a business process improvement consulting company in Topsham, hired Raija Suomela as a project consultant.

Maine College of Art in Portland hired Matthew Goetting as vice president of institutional advancement. Goetting was vice president of development and strategic initiatives at Girard College in Philadelphia.

BerryDunn, an accounting and consulting firm in Portland, hired Jacob Longar as technical analyst and Robert Moore as director of operations in its administrative group; Katherine Davis as senior auditor in its audit and accounting group; Carley Desjardins, Josh Eby, Alana Hoover, Elliott Simpson and Ashley Zaldana as consultants; Jackie Fleener, David Ledbetter, Marcey McHatten, Bethany Noble, Christy Schilling and Julie Sullivan as senior consultants; Arisara Miller and Alexander Tuck as managers; and Joe Traino as senior manager in its consulting group.

The Amputee Association of Maine in Falmouth hired John Farrell as executive director. Farrell has 21 years of experience in health-related media and marketing.

Vreeland Marketing & Design, a strategic branding and marketing agency in Yarmouth, hired Alicia Vignoe as digital marketing manager. Vignoe was previously SEO analyst at CDK Global.

Landry/French Construction Co. in Scarborough hired Greg Rossnagel as project manager and Ted Hamilton as assistant project manager.

Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington hired Kristy Hilton as a nurse practitioner at Franklin Health Primary Care. Hilton most recently provided nursing care in the ICU at VA Togus Medical Center in Augusta.

Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield promoted Alicia Nichols to dean of advancement. Nichols previously managed the school's Founders Campaign and led the school's Advancement Office.

Whole Oceans, a Bucksport company dedicated to the sustainable production of Atlantic salmon in state-of-the-art, environmentally responsible, recirculating aquaculture systems, hired Joe McElwee as chief production officer. Most recently, McElwee was global head of sales for Pentair Aquatic Eco-Systems.

Coastal Enterprises Inc. hired Cynthia Murphy as senior program director of workforce solutions, Sherry Vachon as loan services administrator and Allison Watson as business advisor in Waterville.

MaineHealth in Portland hired Audrey Patin as a program manager with its From the First Tooth initiative and Carla Delude as an administrative specialist II at its Center for Tobacco Independence.

New Dimensions Federal Credit Union in Waterville hired Stephanie Lachance as mortgage/commercial loan officer at its Skowhegan branch.

The city of Portland hired Michael Sauschuck as assistant city manager. Sauschuck previously served as the city's police chief since 2012.

Broadreach Family & Community Services in Belfast hired Todd Goodwin as executive director. Goodwin most recently had been working as a private consultant.

Freeport Players, a theatre group in Freeport, hired Janie Downey Maxwell as executive director.

Promotions

First National Bank in Damariscotta promoted Kyle McKim to assistant branch manager in Ellsworth. McKim was previously a banking associate in Bar Harbor.

Kimberly Scott was promoted to executive director of Camden Conference, a citizens' forum in Midcoast Maine committed to fostering informed discourse on key global issues. Scott was previously conference director.

Geiger, a promotional products distributor in Lewiston, promoted Chris Gagne to data analyst I. Gagne was a product data specialist in information technology.

U.S. Cellular promoted Matthew Adams to retail sales manager for its Bangor Mall location. Adams was previously a retail wireless consultant in Brewer.

Appointments

The Maine Community Foundation in Ellsworth elected Matthew DuBois and Deborah Jordan to its board of directors. DuBois is co-founder of Bankery Custom Cakes and Pastries and co-owner of Skowhegan Fleuriste and Formalwear while Jordan is executive vice president, COO and CFO of Camden National Corp. and Camden National Bank.

Verrill Dana, a law firm in Portland, said attorney Kenneth Ginder was elected vice president of the Maine Employee Benefits Council. Ginder is a member of the firm's employee benefits and executive compensation group.

Robert Gordon University in Scotland appointed Kandyce Powell as visiting professor. Powell is executive director of The Maine Hospice Council and Center for End of Life Care in Augusta.

Trademark Federal Credit Union in Augusta added Melanie Daigle, Blaine Gonthier and Alyson Leeper to its board of directors. Daigle previously served on the credit union's Supervisory Committee, Gonthier is logistics analyst for retail business services and Leeper is private brand specialist for Delhaize. The credit union also said that Pam Rudman, senior corporate auditor for Ahold Delhaize, was appointed as a Supervisory Committee member.

Kennebunk Savings elected Paul Gurney to its board of directors. Gurney is a software architect/developer and the founder of Expression Computing.

Achievements

Todd Reagin, an independent health and life insurance agent with Maine Medicare Options LLC, received an award from Harvard Pilgrim as one of their top performing producers in Medicare supplement sales for the state of Maine.

Legacy Properties Sotheby's International Realty in Portland said it was recognized in the top 1% of all real estate companies nationwide according to the Swanepoel Mega 1000 survey. The firm ranked 673 out of 1,000 in 2017 with a sales volume of $437 million, 772 transaction sides and more than 70 full-time agents.

Make-A-Wish Maine presented a plaque to Fontaine Family – The Real Estate Leader in Auburn recognizing the firm's efforts in helping to grant the 1,400th wish in Maine.

Katahdin Trust in Houlton presented its “2017 Top of the Mountain Commitment to Community Award” to Katie Hill, assistant vice president, bank operations manager, in recognition of her community involvement.

Cushnoc Resiliency Advisors, a management consulting firm specializing in business continuity and disaster recovery planning for small- and medium-sized businesses, said that that Patrick Dunn, president and director consulting, is scheduled to speak at the Disaster Recovery Journal's Fall Conference being held in September in Phoenix. Dunn will speak about complying with the CMS rule for health care emergency preparedness.

MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's “Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Silver Plus Quality Achievement Award.” The award recognizes the hospital's commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.

Bernstein Shur, a law firm in Portland, earned top ratings in Chambers USA, a directory of the nation's top law firms and leading business lawyers. The firm received the highest possible ranking in three practice areas: corporate mergers and acquisitions, energy and natural resources and real estate. In addition, 25 of its attorneys were individually recognized, four were ranked in the top band in their areas of practice, and Robert Keach received the highest ranking of “Star Individual” for his bankruptcy practice; Charles MillerGordon Grimes and Nathan Smith were each highlighted as a “Senior Statesman;” Joel Moser and Daniel Murphy were highlighted as “Associates to Watch;” and Patrick Scully, CEO, was ranked as an “Eminent Practitioner.”

Hospice of Southern Maine in Scarborough welcomed JoAnna Slobodnjak as a palliative medicine fellow, a one-year training program enrolling just two fellows per year. Slobodnjak is board-certified in internal medicine and completed her residency at Wright State/Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.

Verrill Dana, a law firm in Portland, said attorney James Goggin was recognized as a distinguished IP attorney in Managing Intellectual Property's 2018 IP Star Guide. This is the fourth consecutive year that Goggin has been recognized for his intellectual property practice, on both the patent and trademark lists. The firm also announced its utilities group released the second edition of Maine Regulation of Public Utilities, the only treatise on the subject of public utility regulation in Maine.

The National Health Freedom Coalition awarded Heather Retberg and Betsy Garrold one of its annual “Health Freedom Leadership Awards” for their leadership in passing into law Maine LD 725, titled An Act to Recognize Local Control Regarding Food Systems.

The Maine Small Business Development Centers selected Peter Harriman as its “2018 State Star.” The annual award recognizes a staff member that has shown exemplary performance and a strong commitment to small business success. Harriman is a certified business advisor at the center located at University of Southern Maine in Portland.

Portland Magazine said it received two awards at the National Association of Real Estate Editors' 68th Annual Journalism Competition. The Summerguide 2017 story “Dream Islands,” written by founding publisher and editor Colin Sargent and Willis Kuelthau, won a “Bronze Award for Best Team Report” and “Weathering Heights” (December 2017), written by Sargent, received a “Bronze Award for the Best Residential, Mortgage or Financial Real Estate Magazine Story (general circulation).”

Scott Macha, a detailer at Total Eclipse Auto Detailing in Yarmouth, was selected to the 15th annual Air Force One Detailing Team for the second straight year. Macha will join 64 other professional detailers from around the U.S. to continue the annual cleaning and preservation of the presidential plane on display at Seattle's Museum of Flight.
