Jackson Lab plans $5M expansion

The Jackson Laboratory is planning a $5 million expansion at its campus in Bar Harbor, thanks to a grant from the federal government.

The proposed expansion consists of a three-story building that would provide nearly 20,000 square feet of new lab space, according to the Mount Desert Islander. The nonprofit company expects to bring the proposal before the planning board for initial review on May 20, according to the paper.

The Jackson Lab instituted a construction and hiring freeze in January, but a lab spokesperson told the newspaper that the freeze would not affect the new building because it would be grant-funded.
