June home sales up 26%

The Maine Association of Realtors reports home sales in Maine are up by 26% from a year ago, while prices have increased by about 2%.

Real estate agents sold 1,247 single-family homes in Maine last month, up from 985 in June 2011, according to The Associated Press. The median price was $175,500. For the three-month period from April through June, home sales were up 23% in Maine, with the median price up by about 5%. During that period, home sales increased in 14 out of Maine's 16 counties.

The highest-priced homes are in Cumberland County. The lowest-priced homes are in Aroostook County, which had a median sales price of $78,000 over the past three months.
