Tommy Johnson, a mainstay at the Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce for a number of years, has joined Kennebec Savings Bank.
Johnson will manage community giving and engagement at the Augusta-based bank, which announced the hire on Thursday.
He will also oversee operations of the community dividends program, which includes charitable contributions, nonprofit partnerships, employee volunteerism and coordinating sponsorships.
Johnson most recently served as vice president of member engagement at the Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce. He has also worked in relationship-based roles in advertising, media sales, pharmaceuticals and client services.
“Tommy’s community roots and relationship-first approach make him a great fit for Kennebec Savings Bank,” said Andrew Silsby, president and CEO, adding: "We have known that we needed someone who not only understands community impact, but who also reflects the bank’s deep commitment to service. We’re proud to have him lead our community engagement efforts.”
This year, the bank expects to contribute $1.4 million to at least 300 nonprofits across Maine. Johnson will collaborate with internal teams and nonprofit partners in that role.
In taking on the newly created role, Johnson takes some of the load off Amanda Cooley, who will continue in her role as senior vice president and chief marketing and communications officer. She will remain active in the strategic direction of giving efforts, the bank said.
“Tommy brings a powerful combination of heart and experience to this work,” said Cooley. “He understands the importance of relationships in community giving, and I’m excited to partner with him."
Johnson has served two terms on the Falmouth Town Council and has been involved with numerous boards over the years.
“Kennebec Savings Bank has a long-standing reputation for giving back, and I look forward to deepening those relationships and supporting the incredible organizations that serve our communities every day," Johnson said.
Kennebec Savings Bank, which $1.7 billion in assets, has more than 200 employees in offices in Augusta, Farmingdale, Freeport, Portland, Waterville and Winthrop.
Kennebec Savings ranks No. 9 on the list of largest Maine-based banks in the 2025 Mainebiz Book of Lists.
