LURC director steps down for parks post

Catherine Carroll has left her job as director of the Land Use Regulation Commission after a decade on the job to take a position with the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands.

After 24 years with LURC, Carroll has become a senior planner for the bureau, according to a release. Both LURC and the BPL are under the Maine Department of Conservation. In the release, she said she wanted to "go back to my first professional love, planning and managing public lands."

"We will miss Catherine at LURC, yet look forward to bringing her planning and management skills to Maine's public lands," DOC Commissioner Bill Beardsley said. "She has been with LURC for over half of its 40-year existence, and we will continue to draw on her historical knowledge and professional insights."

Gov. Paul LePage has appointed Samantha Horn Olsen, formerly manager of LURC's division of planning, as acting director.
