Maine home sales decline in November

Sales of existing single-family homes in Maine decreased in November by 9.85% over the same month last year, while the national figure rose slightly.

Maine home sales reached 979 units in November, with 1,086 units having been sold the same month last year, according to new data from the Maine Realtors Association. The median sales price for last month was $172,500, a 1.43% decrease over the same period last year.

Angelia Levesque, the association’s president, told the Portland Press Herald that November’s decline in sales could have been the result of weather events in some areas, along with pre-election jitters, though the exact reason wasn’t entirely clear. She added that home sales have increased every month since February 2013.

On a national level, home sales increased 2.4%, while the median sales price increased 5.6% to $206,200 during the same 12-month period, according to the National Association of Realtors. Sales in the Northeast increased 4.6%, while the median sales price increased 4.8%.
