Mascoma Bank has hired Mara Pennell as senior vice president and commercial loan officer in its Portland office.
She brings 20 years of financial services experience to the role in commercial, residential mortgage and consumer lending. Her work has included helping local nonprofits secure financing and partnering with organizations to address housing needs across Maine.
The Topsham resident has held roles at Bath Savings Institution, Midcoast Federal Credit Union and KeyBank.
“Mara's experience and community-driven approach complement the strong engagement our Maine team is known for,” said Andrew Cook, senior vice president at Mascoma and the bank's Maine market manager. “I’m very pleased to welcome her and look forward to all the ways her skills and community commitment can serve our customers.”
Pennell's community activities includes serving as president of the Educational Trust for her local schools. She has also served on the Community Development and Housing Committees for the City of Bath, as well as on the board of the United Way for Midcoast Maine. She volunteers as a financial literacy teacher in schools through Junior Achievement and Jobs for Maine Graduates.
Pennell graduated from Bentley University in Massachusetts and earned a master's degree in organizational leadership from Southern New Hampshire University.
